        The CIBB

        What is the CIBB?

This acronym stands for “Carl-Ivar Br?ndén Building” named after an internationally admired protein crystallographer who is particularly associated with the development of structural biology in Europe. Carl-Ivar Br?ndén was also life sciences research director at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility from 1992 to 1997.
The CIBB is centrally located on the European Photon and Neutron Science Campus (EPN campus) at the confluence of the ESRF synchrotron, the ILL neutron reactor, the EMBL-Grenoble outstation and the Institut de Biologie Structurale. It is easily recognised by its spiral fire escape stairs and its triangle shape. Today, the CIBB houses 80 people affiliated to the four PSB Partners with extensive laboratory space and several of the PSB technical platforms.
